The time-dependent degree of alignment measured, exhibits a periodic, gradually decreasing structure that deviates qualitatively from that expected for gas-phase dimers. Comparison to alignment dynamics calculated from the time-dependent rotational Schrödinger equation shows that the deviation is due to the alignment dependent interaction between the dimer and the droplet surface. This interaction confines the dimer to the tangential plane of the droplet surface at the point where it resides and is the reason that the observed alignment dynamics is also well described by a 2D quantum rotor model."}],"date_published":"2023-08-04T00:00:00Z","publication_status":"published","issue":"5","publisher":"American Physical Society","scopus_import":"1","oa":1,"oa_version":"Preprint","user_id":"2DF688A6-F248-11E8-B48F-1D18A9856A87","date_created":"2023-08-27T22:01:16Z","title":"Nonadiabatic laser-induced alignment dynamics of molecules on a surface","quality_controlled":"1","status":"public"}
