Abstract
How cells orchestrate their behavior during collective migration is a long-standing question. Using magnetic tweezers to apply mechanical stimuli to Xenopus mesendoderm cells, Weber etal. (2012) now reveal, in this issue of Developmental Cell, a cadherin-mediated mechanosensitive response that promotes cell polarization and movement persistence during the collective mesendoderm migration in gastrulation.
